Jack-o-Lanterns using Mason Jars

Here’s a very simple craft which I would like to share, that I found online, and it’s just so perfect for the season which is Halloween!

This is from MyCraftySpot.com, which is my favorite site for crafts. Since it’s almost Halloween, and instead of buying expensive decorations I went to the website and looked for Halloween crafts and I found this. My preschoolers got very excited when I told them about this and that we are going to make this for our Halloween decoration.

Here’s what we needed and bought:

  • Smooth-sided mason jars
  • Black spray paint
  • Scotch tape
  • Tissue paper – orange, green, white, purple
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Mod Podge
  • Black paper
  • Battery-operated tea-light candles

First we took off the lid, and I spray painted them with black.

My kids cut the tissue in strips at least 1-inch-wide and 5 inches in length, the length actually depended on the height of the jar. And for the bottom of the jar, we just traced the bottom of the jar on the tissue paper and cut out the circle shape.

I let my kids brushed the jar with a layer of Mod Podge at the bottom and applied the circular piece of paper and smoothen it out. And then went on brushing the jar’s body with mod podge and applied the pieces of tissue paper.

While they were on to applying the tissue papers, I prepared the faces, which they previously chosen to make.

We leave the jar to dry. And when it is fully dry, we attached the faces.

It was a complete fun making these Jack-o-lanterns, my kids enjoyed it so much that they didn’t even take a break.

And we had our homemade jack-o-lanterns for Halloween!
